When the English rock band Bastille takes to the World Trade Center stage in Pasay City this coming Jan. 5, they'll kick off what promises to be an even bigger year than they’re already experiencing.

For one thing, the band best known for their breakthrough hit “Pompeii,” has just been nominated for a Grammy as best new artist.

Just four weeks after their Manila gig, they’ll walk the red carpet at the awarding ceremonies in LA, where they’ll likely hobnob with the biggest names in the business, from Beyonce to Taylor Swift to Miley to maybe U2.

New EP

They’ve also released a new 9-song EP on Dec. 5 called “VS (Other People’s Heartache, Pt. III).”

It features the song “Bite Down,” a collaboration with the sister act Haim, a fellow best artist nominee alongside Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith and country singer Brandy Clark.

And it’s so catchy, it may yet become a hit for the band in 2015.

2014 a whirlwind

This year has been a whirlwind for Bastille, culminating in the Grammy nod that singer-songwriter Dan Smith tweeted was “mental.”

The band already just won Best Breakthrough Act Award in the 2014 BRIT Awards.

And celebrated BBC DJ Zane Lowe has ranked “The Driver,” off Bastille’s new mixtape EP, as Number 10 on his list of 100 Hottest Records of 2014.

On to greater things

"We're not really used to things like this,” Smith had said of their Grammy nod and of attending the awards show.

“It's still new territory and we always feel slightly out of place, so it's always fun just to watch the spectacle, try and have a good night, and see some amazing people play live."

Those words may just as well apply to their Jan. 5 Manila concert. Organizers Karpos Multimedia promises a fist-pumping, high-power rock show as Bastille, on the brink of even greater things, plays an armload of their biggest and future hits.
