KC Concepcion (Boy Golden) and Vice Ganda (Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy) were proclaimed Movie Actress and Movie Actor of the Year respectively at the Star Awards for Movies last March 9 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom.

But Vice Ganda and KC were not around to receive their trophies during the five-hour glitzy affair. The 37-year-old comedian is in the US for a series of concerts, while the 28-year-old actress is on showbiz break to study abroad.

A first

It could’ve been a proud moment for both actors as the Star Awards top recognition is their first.

KC beat the more veteran and highly-acclaimed  Nora Aunor (Kwento ni Mabuti), Rustica Carpio (Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap?)  and Vilma Santos (Ekstra).

Vice Ganda, meanwhile, competed against Joel Torre (On the Job), Robin Padilla (10,000 Hours) and Piolo Pascual (On the Job).

Erik Matti’s “On the Job” and Chito Rono’s “Badil” won Movie and Indie Movie of the Year, respectively. Both filmmakers also won the top directors’ trophy.

Joey Marquez (On the Job) and Angel Aquino (Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita) won the award for Movie Supporting Actor of the Year and Movie Supporting Actress of the Year respectively.

Crime drama “On the Job” emerged as the night’s biggest winner with six awards, followed by gangster movie “Boy Golden” with three.
