Singer Kyla got married twice, to the same man, of course.

She tied the knot with cager Rich Alvarez in  civil rites on April 2011 before she said “I do” in church on November  2011.

"Before yung church wedding, nag-secret wedding muna kami, na hindi ko inamin dati. Pero may reason naman for that. Na-engage kami nung January, tapos kinasal kami nung April," Kyla said at the renewal of her contract with Polyeast Records on Wednesday, March 12.

Strict parents

Kyla and Rich had a civil wedding first because they wanted travel as a couple, something her strict parents didn’t allow her to do unless she ties the knot.

Why did she keep her  civil wedding a secret?

"We wanted to be private, na kami na lang sana muna. Tapos kapag ishi-share namin, mas maganda na yung church wedding. Parang mas maganda kung fairy tale."

Aside from their family, some of Kyla's closest friends in showbiz are aware of their civil wedding. Kyla first told fellow Kapuso star Jolina Magdangal about it.

The first country Kyla and Rich visited after their wedding was Singapore.

Explorations

"For seven years, we have not done anything like that. Ang pinakamalayo na namin nadating dati was Tagaytay, tapos marami pa kaming kasama. Hindi kami nakapag-explore. So when we got married, lagi kaming nagtratravel. Kahit matagal kaming naging magboyfriend, ngayon pa lang talaga kami nagi-explore," she said.

But  Kyla has no regrets obeying her strict, conservative parents.  In fact, she wants to apply some of her parents’ style of upbringing  on her own child.

"Thankful din ako kasi at least maayos yung situation ko ngayon. Okay lang, may mga misunderstanding kami dati, pero I realized na okay lang pala. Kung magkaroon ako ng daughter, hindi ko rin papayagan magtravel with her boyfriend. "

The singer-mom is finishing her upcoming album with Polyeast. Kyla is proud her songs are all original.

"Ngayon, parang naeenganyo kami ulit to write original songs para mabuhay ang OPM ba. Nung sinulat ko yung song na "Journey," iyon yung nagbakasyon kami out of the country. So, it's more of traveling and exploring."
