On May 1, vacationing hordes are expected to descend Boracay for the Labor Day holiday.

The buildup to the non-working holiday (and snaps of people on the island itself) has been chronicled on social media, with vacationers hashtagging their selfies #Laboracay.

Showing people prepping for their big beach holiday, the hashtag is a gallery of abs, pecs and bums and the effort people put into achieving their beach-ready bodies.

Zingers

The hashtag has also been mocked silly on the Tumblr post “ The 7 Best #Laboracay Photos on Instagram Right Now ” by Boracay Hater, who called it an “annual man-made catastrophe that draws swarms of douchebags and airheads to this island.”

The author of the blog had added zingers to the hashtagged captions of his chosen selfies.

On the photo of a slim woman’s torso in a T-shirt captioned “Tumtum is not yet ready for #laboracay,” Boracay Hater comments: “What do you call girls who refer to their stomach as tumtum? Clue: it rhymes with tumtum.”

Phase 1 only

Another photo showing the toned abs of a guy surrounded by beachwear and captioned, “Haaay sooo hard to choose #zara #shorts #summer #laboracay #bora #bora #boardshorts” got this reply: “Hoodie. Pick a hoodie instead.”

The Tumblr post has been reblogged more than 300 times and gained Boracay Hater 100 followers and “so much site traffic within 2 hours of posting” of his #Laboracay entry, which was put up on April 22.

Calling the post “Phase 1: The Preparation,” the author promises, ”Stay tuned for Phase 2: The Arrival.”

Ping Medina rides the trend

Meanwhile, Ping Medina is riding the trend. He posted a half-naked selfie, his belly slightly distended, a toothbrush stuck to his mouth. The caption read: “Omg my #LaBoracay body is not ready yet! So #LaBorat with myself! Must #LaBuhatin the gym more! Here I come #LaBorta body! OHMYGOD!”

The actor told Yahoo Philippines, "Took it in a hotel in CDO city during the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. I did it to document the progress of my #KatawanPangRomansa program. Just thought I'd use it after seeing people on Instagram so obsessed with their looks in preparation for LaBoracay."

Ping is currently working on a film in Maguindanao based on the clan wars between the Muslim elite in Mindanao. "The title is 'Maratabat,' which means 'family honor' in the Muslim world," he said. The movie is directed by Arlyn Dela Cruz.

#Laboracay playlist

But, mocked or not, Spotify Philippines has embraced the hashtag and created a summer playlist for Bora-bound revelers (or even if you’re not).

The 19-song set is a mix of local and foreign pop tracks.

It includes tunes from recent Manila visitors Moonpools & Caterpillars, The 1975, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Capital Cities and US-born June Marieezy who played at the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival in Mindoro.
