Pauleen Luna: I’m not after Bossing’s money

Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna.

Why must it happen all the time?  When a young woman becomes a  much older man’s girlfriend, she is accused of having her eyes on the guy’s fat wallet.

Pauleen Luna, 25,  is smarting from such ugly accusations surround her relationship with  Eat Bulaga’s  Vic ‘Bossing’ Sotto, who  is 34 years her senior.  And you can’t blame her.

“I’m not after Bossing’s money. Ako ay napakasipag sa pagdating sa trabaho  because I want to earn my own money. I don’t wanna depend on someone else’s money. As a matter of fact, hindi ko naman kailangan magtrabaho kasi sinusuportahan naman ako ng aking pamilya.  Gusto ko lang independent ako,” she said at the press conference of the romance comedy “Gaydar.”

Her parents are naturally  hurt just as well because “alam nila na hindi totoo ang sinasabi ng mga tao.” Mom and Dad saw the nasty rumors coming even before Pauleen entered showbiz.

“Ayaw nila akong mag-artista kasi magulo nga siya.  Pero pinagbigyan nila ako,” explains Pauleen.

Her parents are just as supportive of their celebrity daughter’s love life.

“Vic respects my parents,” observes Pauleen.  Besides, if they see that their daughter is happy with Vic, they will not object.

“If it’s the real thing; if nakikita naman nilang pure yung pagmamamahal sa isa’t isa at walang masamang intensyon, okay lang.”

Big age gap

The 34-year age gap may seem to be an issue with other couples, but it’s not where Vic and Pauleen are concerned.

“We have an equal amount of respect for  each other. Ang importante is we have God at the center of our relationship.”

Do we expect wedding bells to ring anytime soon?

“Minsan, napag-uusapan ang marriage, but nothing serious. Dumadaan lang siya,” replies Pauleen.

She’s not expecting anything, because Pauleen prefers an element of surprise over the most careful wedding plans.

“Mas mabuti less expectations. Masaya lang kami. If it’s meant to happen, it’s gonna happen.  Ayaw ko pangunahan ang mga  bagay bagay.”

For now, it’s enough that Pauleen can’t ask for anything more.

“Wala na akong mahihiling pa. I’m complete.  I have my family, my career, my supporters and Vic beside me.”

Vic, she adds, has helped her mature faster.  He also encourages her to become a  good  comedienne in “Gaydar” by laughing at her funny scenes.

“Nung una, poker-faced siya. Later, tumawa na siya,” recalls Pauleen.

“Gaydar” is not her first attempt at comedy.  Pauleen has been cracking jokes on TV for the past eight to nine years she has been with the noontime show “Eat Bulaga.”

“Nagamit ko rin ang comic timing na natutunan ko sa “Bulaga.”

Vic, and the rest of his Dabarkads, will surely agree.
