All the praises and hype for her ongoing stint in “Miss Saigon” at the West End may have upped belter Rachelle Ann Go’s popularity and bankability, but she’s getting more from it than that.

“Iba ‘yung discipline na natutunan ko sa ‘Saigon.’ I can’t explain pero as it goes along mas madali na for me to find my way into delivering a song. The first few months namamaos ako kaya nagvo-voice lessons ako which nakatulong talaga,” Rachelle Ann told the Philippine press on October 16.

She flew back to the Philippines to launch a major clothing brand. Then, she briefly met the press at Bella Ibarra in Quezon City on Thursday before hopping on a plane bound for London that same evening.

‘Curly’ notes

Asked about rendering “curly notes” in some of her performances as Gigi, the bar girl, in the musical, she replied, “Nagpaalam po ako about that, na if okay lang kumulot. Then gumawa ako ng riffs.”

Rachelle Ann is contracted to be part of the show until next year, doing eight shows a week.

Which accounts perhaps for the discipline she’s gained. And the many kudos she’s received both from her kababayans and abroad.

She said, “I am grateful that you all became part of my journey in London. At sobrang thankful ako na maging part ng ‘Miss Saigon.’”

Gigi effect

Her impressive performance with original Miss Saigon star Lea Salonga for the musical’s 25th anniversary was another big deal.

“Nakaka-amaze at ang daming dumating na blessings sa akin kasama na iyon. Miss Lea gave me pieces of advice on singing and that only shows malaking epekto talaga ang ‘Miss Saigon’ sa buhay ko.”

She also revealed that said she got sick after her moment with Lea.

In-between ‘Saigon’

Although her schedule in “Miss Saigon” leaves her precious little time, she has managed to do charity work with Blake.

She also plans to record some music in London.

And, for all her hard work in “Saigon,” she plans to reward herself with a house.

What’s next

What’s next after “Saigon”?

She’s still mulling her options but gave a hint. “I enjoy theater and magtatagal pa ako sa theater.”

On the possibility of landing a role when the musical is adapted into a movie, she humbly stated, “Sana makuha ako, kahit extra lang.”
