The GoExperience: Beachy in the city

...while promoting Pinoy artists of all kinds, too

Showcasing not just Filipino music, but also food, crafts and photography, Radio Republic’s most recent GoExperience event was the second in a series.

The first one last March started as an invitation-only event. Its success led the group to hold the second free event at Arts in The City in Fort Bonifacio last April 26, 2014.

Held in a small venue, the #GoExperience vibe channeled a small beach festival in the city, with flow arts performers starting the event by embracing the afternoon heat by dancing with fire. Their exhibition was accompanied by percussive sounds of Adinkra Lumads Djembe Circle.

Drums, photos, food

Afterwards, the pace picked up by riling up everyone to dance with Escola De Sambas musician siblings Toni and Bogey Bernardo.

A photography exhibit with the theme “Movement” was installed indoors featuring photographs of rock musicians such as Reg Rubio, Ian Tayao, Japs Sergio, Lalay Lim and Francis Aquino; pop stars such as Martin Nievera and abstract images that invoke the said theme.

Outside, there were kiosks that sold Filipino-made products from accessories to toys, along with food catered by Mercato Centrale.

Diverse musical acts

An 8-piece reggae, soul and ska band, The Jeffrey Zulueta Experience propelled the evening forward with a high-energy performance.

In contrast, Chocolate Grass toned things down with a set of soul and jazz, a timely embrace of the summer breeze that cooled the day’s heat.

Squid 9 was a much-awaited performance. The electronica project by Eraserheads drummer Raimund Marasigan was recently reincarnated with a fourth studio album “Origamidi,” launched last March 28. His new lineup includes drummer Shinji Tanaka, his bandmate from Gaijin, with Paolo Peralta of Turbo Goth on vocals and guitar.

No sand, no sea, no worries

An intimate festival in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, GoExperience was a lovely, laidback event with a carefully curated lineup that brought out the many layers of summer--in addition to supporting and promoting Filipino artists, from musicians, performance artists, craftsmen and photographers.

The lack of sand beneath the attendees’ feet did not take away the vibe, the night’s program perfect for those stuck in the city.

GoExperience 2 was an urban event worthy of the sand and sea it evoked.
