The weird, new Sandwich vs. Pedicab song collab explained

“Bitin” is probably the best word to describe it. At least that’s how the director of the music video RA Rivera himself called it.

“Give Me Some of That” is a collaborative effort between Pedicab and Sandwich that leans more towards the members’ hip-hop mashup sensibilities driven by (presumably) Diego Mapa’s falsetto and looped/deconstructed/reconstructed Sandwich riffs.

Sonically it may lead to some head-scratching by the general public accustomed to both bands’ more radio-friendly fare.

Touristic

The accompanying video directed by Rivera is decidedly easier to absorb featuring live footage of the bands during their recent London gig and being hip tourists wearing headphones while visiting parts of the UK.

The streets of London from a bike rider’s POV? Check. Riding the tube? Yup. Stonehenge? Yessir. There is a brief scene where Raimund Marasigan is in front of his laptop; he was probably cutting up the loops for this tune.

Kate Torralba, Quark Henare and Top Junk also appear; the latter’s Tuesday Vargas gesturing and mouthing “kakain na tayo!” precedes footage of, well, the entourage eating sandwiches. (There is a “trippy” allusion in the lyrics.)

Why?

The music is short, to the point and seems to function for the video and not the other way around.

The intent?

“RA had this idea of coming up with a video of the tour and we were all game,” Pedicab guitarist Jason Caballa told Yahoo Philippines.

Copyright restrictions

“But the problem was, we couldn't use any existing songs from either band's catalog because we were signed and YouTube might block it, so we had to use a brand new song,” Caballa said.

Then, Pedicab vocalist Diego Mapa remixed the riff of Sandwich’s "2-Trick Pony," turning it into a dance track, and then “sang over it" to make it sound like a "collaboration between the two bands.”

While no scenes wear out their welcome and everybody obviously had a great time, one wishes there was slightly more footage of those sandwiches.
