Constant rumors and reports on the break-ups and rocky relationships of celebrity couples can easily make fans jaded about love under the limelight.

But of course, a number of relationships and unions prove that showbiz love can indeed, work.

Family first

There’s Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen. Married since 1997, Ariel and Gelli strengthen their marriage by focusing on their “deeper connection” rather than just romance and passion.

“Nawawala rin naman yung ganyang passion. Napapalitan ng mas deeper connection from years of being together and knowing each other for so many years. More than the romance, you will realize that this is even better,” Gelli told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in an interview.

Ariel said putting family first is part of a happy marriage.

“We prioritize family before anything else—before work, before hobbies, before anything else,” the Kapamilya actor said.

The union of Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres, who got married in 1998 is also among showbiz’s most admirable relationships.

Richard’s onscreen love team with Dawn Zulueta had a resurgence of sorts, thanks to the 2012 ABS-CBN drama “Walang Hanggan.” But the couple doesn’t let their work affect their relationship. In fact, Lucy is a self-proclaimed fan of the Richard-Dawn love team.

“No matter how busy we are, we always have time for each other. It’s very important,” Richard said in a previous interview.

“We always tell each other, aanuhin namin ang lahat kung wala kaming pamilya? So, this is what keeps us going,” Lucy said.

Wedding like no other

Although they tied the knot only recently, Zoren Legaspi’s surprise wedding for Carmina Villaroel shows that a man’s love can make him do anything for his special someone.

Carmina was kept in the dark for months while Zoren prepared for their November 15, 2012 wedding— after two children and several years of being together as a couple. Carmina thought she—with Zoren and children Mavy and Cassy—was attending a family-oriented commercial shoot in Fernbrooks, Las Pinas City. When she got there, Zoren proposed. When she said yes, their twins announced, “You have to get married tonight!”—hence marking what could be local showbiz’s most romantic wedding ever.

Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez also make the grade as showbiz’s most inspiring couple. Married in December 2010, the two continue to have good relations with Ogie’s ex-wife—beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren, with whom the singer-songwriter has two daughters. In fact, Michelle is the godmother of Ogie and Regine’s son Nate.

“You know, that’s one thing that’s good about my husband because he will always find time.. My husband would always find time for us,” Regine said.

Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales as well as Gladys Reyes and Christopher Roxas have also proven they can withstand the pressures of being a showbiz couple.

No sacrifices

Is Zanjoe Marudo the one for Kapamilya star Bea Alonzo? The actress hopes so. While their relationship is still young compared to others, the two keep the fire burning by working hard to make their relationship work.

“The most beautiful thing about this relationship is not having to sacrifice anything for it. Inaccept niya ako for who I am, what I do, what I love to do. So it’s a beautiful relationship, not having to sacrifice anything for him,” Bea told Yahoo! OMG! Philippines.

All eyes are also on Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, perhaps one of the hottest onscreen and off-screen partners in show business. The Kapuso couple has been through a number of showbiz-related intrigues, but they still remain strong.

“Siyempre, kailangan hindi naman all work, di ba? Kailangan you need to know what you’re working for,” Dingdong reveals how he balances his love life with his work.
