Jake, Melissa admit break-up
After months of speculation on their break-up, Melissa Ricks and Jake Cuenca finally admitted they have broken up. The former couple kept their relationship from the public for more than a year and only revealed last December that they had been dating.
"To be honest, wala na po kami ni Jake. Sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa akin, maraming, maraming salamat," Melissa said in an interview on Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) last June 3.
The announcement did not surprise Jake.
"It's already been two months since our breakup so I wasn't surprised," he told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! via an SMS message.
A third party was rumored to have caused the break-up, but Melissa is mum on the issue.
Jake is more open about it.
"There is no third party," he told Yahoo! Philippines OMG!.
The rumored third party, Jolo Revilla, also denied the speculation.
"Hindi ako magiging rason sa paghihiwalay ng kahit na sino man, mapang-asawa man o wala. Hinding-hindi mangyayari iyon," Jolo said in an interview with SNN.
Despite the breakup, Jake wishes he and Melissa remain friends. After all, he said in his SMS message, there's no hard feeling between him and Melissa, whom he fondly calls Mel. They're in the process of trying to be friends.
"She'll always have a special place rin in my heart. Like I always say na I hope we can still be friends, sana hindi masira. Sana andoon lang lagi ang friendship. Kasi before we started the relationship, we were friends," Jake told SNN.
Melissa and Jake worked in the weekend series "Pedro Penduko" with Matt Evans before they became a couple.
Now that Jake and Melissa have officially announced their break-up, Jake would like to focus first on his work. "Trabaho muna tayo. Maraming blessings ang nangyayari ngayon at maybe I would just like na magfocus sa work. Si Mel naman parang ang utak nya nakasarado rin sa trabaho," Jake said to SNN. Jake recently finished his series "Green Rose," while Melissa is set to star on a new drama series "Nasaan ka Elisa."
Asked if Jake would remain single for the meantime, he replied, "Oo, single muna. Trabaho muna tayo."
