While everyone was busy sending out hearts and flowers and going out on special dates on Valentine’s Day eve, Kamikazee and Gloc-9 launched the video for a song they collaborated on during the set for the KamiQuesoHoundz tour at 19 East in Parañaque last Feb. 13.

The song “Kunwari” comes in time for election season.

With a chorus that goes, “Ako, ako ang piliin niyo / ako lamang at wala na ngang iba / ang kasagutan sa lahat ng / kahirapan niyo, kunwari,” the song recaps the many campaign promises people have heard many times before.

OPM aka Oh Promise Me

It reminds listeners to choose wisely and not hold too much on words, but on promises.

It is Kamikazee’s first collaboration with Gloc-9, who has worked before with other artists like Ebe Dancel and Parokya Ni Edgar.

The song also features guest musicians such as Biboy Garcia of Queso and Manuel Legarda of Wolfgang and Razorback.

Despite the song’s political theme, Kamikazee, as always, proved to be entertaining. And, given the date of the launch, the theme of the song can also apply to romantic love: that it's best to be careful and not trust anyone too easily.

Funny set

Vocalist Jay Contreras, who has always been a funny frontman, introduced Biboy Garcia as Kamikazee’s guest DJ from Jamaica.

He also told the crowd that the mestizo Manuel Legarda couldn’t be present that evening because he was “taking care of his blue eyes.”

Aside from the single, Kamikazee played some songs from their latest album “Romantico,” which was apt for the night.

From politics to footwear

The band ended the night with their classic song “Nasaan ang Tsinelas Ko,” which may make some people think twice about taking Kamikazee’s political statements seriously.

But it only reminds us of how insane Kamikazee can be as a rock band—sounding the battle cry for the wellbeing of the country, yet knowing too that we need something on our feet to get where we need to go.
