“Can I end this once and for all?”
That was Kris Aquino finally addressing the matter concerning her controversial love scene with Robin Padilla that almost ended Robin’s two-year marriage with Mariel Rodriguez.
What complicated the matter was not the actual scenes in the teleserye “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” but Robin’s past romance with Kris.
The scenes depicted Robin and Kris in a Jacuzzi and a quick shot showing them lying in bed together. While they were just acting, their chemistry seemed so real, it prompted Mariel to give her wedding ring back to Robin.
Understands where Mariel is coming from
“I was also young. I was also immature. Pinagdaanan ko rin naman ‘yan before kaya inunawa ko na lang,” Kris said in a press conference of the 2013 season of “Pilipinas Got Talent” last Feb. 13, apparently referring to Mariel’s reaction to her scene with Robin.
Robin has since reconciled with his wife, appearing on TV5’s noontime show “Wowowillie” where Mariel is a co-host. On bended knees, he reaffirmed his love for Mariel and placed the wedding ring back on her finger.
For her part, Kris drew the line between what appeared on the television series and what Robin and Mariel share.
‘Marriage is forever’
“By April, we’re done (with the series). But hopefully, a marriage is forever,” Kris said. Her love scenes with Robin, she added, were “not worth any conflict.”
“Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw,” the primetime drama series topbilling Robin, Kris, and Anne Curtis, ends its run in April after being on the air for only three months.
Why is it ending too soon? Could ratings be a factor?
While the show leads “Temptation of Wife,” the Marian Rivera drama series which airs directly on rival network GMA-7, the Kapamilya soap has not convincingly dominated the timeslot.
It also ranks the lowest among ABS-CBN primetime shows, even trailing the hit noontime series “Be Careful With My Heart,” according to Kantar Media surveys.
But there is talk that Kris herself wants out of the series.
No controversy, please
That makes sense.
After all, controversy, which used to be Kris’s lifeblood, is something she has studiously avoided ever since her brother Noynoy Aquino became president.
And especially not at this time when election season is about to go into full swing.
