Lauren Young: No rivalry with Megan

Young Kapamilya actress Lauren Young topbills the remake of the hit soap opera "Mula sa Puso." She will play Via, the role catapulted now Kapuso star Claudine Barretto to television stardom. So now that ABS-CBN is pushing Lauren into the spotlight, is there a brewing rivalry between her and older sister Megan since she got the bigger television break first?

Although Lauren admits she doesn't want to be compared to her sister, she said that there is no rivalry because they have different niches in the industry.

"Magkaiba kami ng field na ginagawa. Siya, she's more into hosting. Ako talaga, I really want to do drama. But at the end of the day, I know people are still gonna to compare us.... I must be able to work hard on what I do, prove on what I can do, so I don't think it's a bad thing naman," Lauren told members of the entertainment press during the "Mula sa Puso" press conference last week.

She added that they never get jealous of each other professionally.

"Never nagkainggitan because we really, as much as possible, we really try to separate our personal life from work. Pag dating sa bahay, we leave work out the door na," she said.

Lauren also said Megan is soon coming out with her own show, "Precious Hearts Romance Presents: Hiyas."

When asked who among them is the better actress, the young actress quipped: "Ibigay na nya sa akin yun, host na sya e. Hosting naman sya e."

Besides turning Claudine into a major television star, "Mula sa Puso" is also known for turning onscreen partners Barretto and the late Rico Yan into real life lovers. Is Lauren open to having this kind of relationship with JM De Guzman, the young actor who will play Rico's role in the 2011 remake?

"Ako, as much as possible, I want to keep it professional kasi baka di ako makafocus sa trabaho ko," Lauren said.

Preparations

Because Lauren was three years old when the 1997 "Mula sa Puso" first aired, she said she wasn't to watch the now-iconic soap opera that ran until 1999. But she said she has no plans of watching the show as not to compromise her acting.

"Ayoko tignan kasi ayoko gayanin. May tendency kasi ako na when I watch something, nagagaya ko sya. So wala rin akong balak manood," she said.

How did Lauren prepare for the role?

"Pagdating po sa scenes, I don't think I'm Lauren. Talagang nilalagay ko na yung sarili ko sa sapatos ni Via. Like, kung paano ko bitawan yung lines ko, like every movement I have, I would think, 'would Via do this?' or 'would Lauren do this?'," she said.

"Mula sa Puso," which also stars Enrique Gil, Dawn Zulueta, Eula Valdez, and Ariel Rivera, premieres Monday, March 28, before "TV Patrol."
