For a topnotch singer, perhaps nothing is more flattering than being praised by another talent of equal caliber.

Balladeer Martin Nievera found himself in such a position after A-list singer Ogie Alcasid expressed his highest admiration for Martin’s voice.

"He's the best… baritone voice I've heard," Ogie said in all seriousness during a press event just prior to the concert “Foursome,” which staged on Feb. 14 at the Mall of Asia Arena and featured Martin and his estranged wife Pops Fernandez, and Ogie and wife Regine Velasquez.

How they prepared

Martin graciously acknowledged the compliment, in turn giving props to Ogie’s smooth singing style.

Pops, meanwhile, expressed how excited she was for the show. “The fact it is the first time na magkakasama kami sa concert," she said.

Prior to complimenting Martin, Ogie deadpanned his reply when asked how they prepared for the show.

"Democratic naman kami. Sinusunod lang namin kung anong sabihin ni Martin."

Show highlights

The Concert King, immediately riding on the joke, replied, "I'm a control freak. I spent nights writing the scripts, the sequence guides, and all that."

Regine, meanwhile, distanced herself from the process. saying, "Ayoko masyado makialam. I'm a team player in the group."

Among the many highlights of the show were Ogie and Martin singing one another’s hits, a Pops and Martin medley of love songs, Regine and Pops singing 80s hits, a medley of OPM hits, and songs from Broadway hits like “Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables.”
