Pinky: Edu always important; a part of my life

During the 2010 Presidential campaign, reports claim that Edu Manzano and Pinky Webb broke up to allow the actor-politician to focus on this bid for the vice presidency as running mate of then administration bet Gilbert Teodoro. But less than a year later, Pinky met with some members of the press and reluctantly answered questions about her relationship with Edu.

"Basta magkaibigan pa rin kami. I don't think that will ever change," Pinky said.

"Edu is and will always be important and a part of my life," the ABS-CBN news anchor and host of "Umagang Kay Ganda" added.

When asked to confirm rumors that she and Edu had already tied the knot, Pinky avoided the question and asked to spare her personal life instead.

"Well everyone knows what's happened. Yung personal na nangyari sa buhay ko at sa pamilya ko is out. I don't really talk about it because sa ganun kasi I don't want to be in the news and I hope that doesn't sound bad. Ayoko kasi palakihin pa yung sinasabi na ganito kayong dalawa o nagpakasal kayong dalawa, minsan ayoko na sagutin kasi pag sagutin ko pa, lalabas pa rin ako bukas. I think I've given my share to the public. Pero sa personal na buhay ko, I really want it to be mine not because kinahihiya ko pero ayokong masyaodng pinag-uusapan ang mga ganun," said Pinky during the pocket interviews with the press for the reformatted ABS-CBN morning show.

On brother's acquittal

Aside from being in the hot seat over her relationship with Edu, Pinky also happens to be the sister of the recently acquitted suspect of the Vizconde massacre, Hubert Webb. Being part of media herself, how did Pinky deal with the situation?

"With regards to my family, I think after 14 years I've gotten used to it. Na may lalabas, alam kong may sasabihin, alam kong my colleagues will have their opinion. I don't take it personally. Sorry na lang ako parag ganoon dahil lumabas ang pamilya namin na na-link although I don't understand why, but I'm also in the news eh. Sometimes I feel my being in the news is actually a gift because it helped me understand why media acts a certain way. It helped me to be less judgmental and more circumspect," said Pinky.

She also added that before the verdict for the case against her brother was proclaimed, she went on a two and a half week leave from ABS-CBN.

"Parang that's (an) unspoken (rule) among us. If you (are) an interested party, don't say anything about it or you take a leave. So that's what I did when the thing with my brother came out, I was on leave for two and a half weeks. "

On UKG, new hosts

Meanwhile, Pinky said she is happy to work with the newest addition to the UKG family, Venus Raj and Iya Villana.

"Magaling sila si Iya tska si Venus. They're willing to ask. I'm very excited. Maganda, parang it rubs off on you kasi matagal-tagal ka na ng konti kasi sila ang bago. Good vibes."

According to Pinky, UKG helped her show the "other side" of her.

"The morning show taught me to be a little less serious. At least pag sumasama ako sa kanila pag meron kaming mga feature stories, it was good kasi it shows na hindi ako masyadong seryosong tao. Medyo barok naman ako at bakya yung ganun so natutuwa ako. Of course complement yung sa radyo rin na ginagawa ko so hindi ako medyo nahirapan na ipakita kung sino talaga ako, na hindi naman talaga ako sobrang seryoso, na mababaw rin akong tao na patawa-tawa rin paminsan-minsan, pwede ring sumayaw-sayaw paminsan-minsan."

The reformatted "Umagang Kay Ganda" with Anthony Taberna, Pinky Webb, Alex Santos, Winnie Cordero, Phoemela Barranda, Andrei Felix, Iya Villana and Venus Raj continues to air 5:30 am weekdays on ABS-CBN.
