Sam Pinto wants to try everything

Commercial model turned reality show contestant and now actress Sam Pinto is becoming one of the more in-demand personalities in the industry today. Besides being a regular in the hit comedy sketch show "Bubble Gang," she was also part of two hit movies: last year's "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" and the Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson-starrer "Catch Me... I'm In Love."

And now, she's part of the cast of GMA 7's superhero drama, "Captain Barbell," the sequel to the 2006 hit show led by Richard Gutierrez.

"I feel very, very happy and privileged (to be part of the show) kasi si Richard, crush ko sya dati when I was a kid talaga. Working with him is really a privilege, as well as everyone else. They're really great people," Sam told members of the press after the "Captain Barbell" advance screening last week.

In "Captain Barbell," the 21-year-old actress plays Sammy, one of the show's costumed villains. Sam describes her character as "different." "Why not be a superhero, right? Everyone wants to be a superhero," she said.

Sam was quick to add that there's no pressure co-starring with Richard's four leading ladies—Solenn Heussaff, Michelle Madrigal, Isabel Oli, and Lovi Poe.

"For me, wala namang pressure. And also wala namang competition. Feeling ko, pantay pantay din naman lahat. I guess it's really, depende sa tao," she said.

Follow Marian's path

After her transfer from ABS-CBN, Sam is becoming a regular fixture on television and even the movies. But is she happy with the kind of push her home network is giving her?

"Sobrang saya ko sa GMA 7 kasi lagi akong busy. Dami kong projects dito. So sobrang saya naman, she said.

"I got sick a few weeks ago. I got a really, really bad flu. As in bedridden for five days. I went to pictorial na sobrang vegetable. Yun lang naman as of now. I'm fine now."

Now that she has dipped her foot on the waters of acting, Sam said she wants to try everything first before she settles into a specific specialization or genre.

"As of now, I want to try everything. Kasi I'm a regular in Bubble Gang, I'm going comedy too. Now here, action. I want to try everything lang talaga muna as of now. And maybe soon I'll choose which one talaga yung gusto kong path," Sam said.

Sam said she looks up fellow Kapuso actress Marian Rivera the most.

"Alam mo, parang narealize ko na gusto ko i-follow yung path ni Marian (Rivera). Kasi lahat ng roles nya ang gaganda. Like, Dyesebel and Darna. And I super look up to her, sobrang galing nyang actress. The first time I met her, she was super nice to me. It was during a San Miguel event. As in, tinutulungan pa nya ako sa stage," she said.

Given a choice, however, Sam said she'd want to concentrate on drama.

"Drama talaga. Magwoworkshop muna ako, sandali lang," she quipped.
