Sitti: A time to grow

Bossa nova queen Sitti is experimenting with a more pop sound and is happy with the results. Sitti decided on taking a new musical direction because she believes it's high time for her to grow as an artist especially since so much has happened in her personal life and career recently.

This is why her new self-titled album, "Sitti," means so much to her.

" Matagal ko po 'tong inantay. Matagal ko po siyang pinagdasal and it's just amazing how everything falls into place," Sitti said during her album's press conference.

Though many may be surprised at her decision to slowly let go of her bossa crown, Sitti believes the timing is just right.

"Maraming nanibago but I hope you guys will join me in my journey as a singer. Kailangan kong mag grow. Kasi kung ililimit ko lang ang sarili ko sa Bossa Nova, mahirap eh, parang hanggang dun lang ako ganun," she said.

The new album has eight original tracks plus three classics, two of which, "Baby I'm in Love" and "End it With You" are Sitti's compositions. But among all the songs included in the album, "Wag Mo na Munang Sabihin," written by former Sugarfree frontman Ebe Dancel, was the most challenging to record. A self confessed perfectionist, Sitti added that she is her worst critic, citing that it took two recordings -- one in September and another in October last year as well as numerous consultations from her record producer and Ebe -- to convince her that she did justice to the song.

"Dito ako sa "Wag mo na Munang Sabihin" hirap na hirap. It took me months to be happy with how I sang "Wag Mo na Munang Sabihin." You know Ebe Dancel. Isa po siya sa mga batikang song writers natin ngayon.Yung style po niya, Ebe can say so few words pero yung mga words na yun, yun talaga ang tatatak sa puso mo. Nahirapan talaga ako. Honestly."

Finding herself through music

Like "Wag Mo na Munang Sabihin," an emotional song about heartbreak and the pain of letting go, Sitti's personal life was an instant topic during the press conference.

Asked why she and her non-showbiz boyfriend broke up, Sitti sang some lines from "End it With You" which goes, "and though I love you, I gotta find myself. I know this will hurt you..."

But has Sitti found herself yet?

"[I'm] still looking [for myself] still finding, nandun pa po tayo sa process," she said.

Sitti has also met her father for the first time last Easter Monday, as reported on Yahoo! OMG! Philippines. The meeting was perhaps one of the top highlights of Sitti's journey to self discovery.

"Sa mga hindi pa nakakaalam, I met my father for the first time last Easter Monday, and this album is very very different from the previous ones I made. I'm just taking each day one step at a time, I'm trying to do my best," she said.
