From Regine to Slapshock

Headlining the digital album is “The Prayer” featuring Kuh Ledesma, Gary V, Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, ZsaZsa Padilla, Lani Misalucha and Christian Bautista. The single is the result of a collaboration among the Philippine Association of Recording Industries (PARI), DDB and Spinnr.ph.

Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez contributed another track, “The Lord Is Our Savior.”

Also featured in the tribute album are “Tibay ng Pinas” by the Dawn and "Unshakable" by Slapshock.

Against all odds

Jett Pangan, frontman for The Dawn observed, “For those living in Manila, we can only imagine the devastation and suffering in Eastern Visayas. ‘Tibay ng Pinas’ is our tribute to the Filipino spirit that endures against all odds. We can all learn from the strength of these brave survivors.”

Jett also disclosed that the song was originally written in the wake of Ondoy.

Slapshock’s “Unshakable" was written and recorded in the Philippines and Malaysia by Slapshock and JD, guitarist of Malaysian indie rock rockers, Pop shuvit. The song was mixed and engineered in San Francisco, CA by Damien Lewis for BMBX Entertainment.

“We're all devastated by the Yolanda disaster," said vocalist Jamir Garcia. The band traveled to Tacloban on December 15.

Slapshock’s Tacloban visit

"We just couldn't believe what we have seen and we were moved to do something,” Jamir added. “We make music that reaches out to a lot of people, so we wanted ‘Unshakable’ to do that same thing. It's a song for all of us – for strength and to help appease grieving hearts."

The song is a moving rock ballad that builds to an emotive climax.

The band announced on its Facebook page that it would begin shooting the video of the song on December 17.

Apl.de.ap: ‘We’re all in this together’

Slapshock also plans to help rebuild and restore public parks lost at the height of the typhoon.

Said apl.de.ap, founder of BMBX and the apl.de.ap Foundation, “Music is a powerful medium and we're dedicated to raise as much awareness as possible for the Philippines and Help.ph during this recovery period. We are all in this together and thank all our partners for helping us get the word out in a big way."
