Carlos Agassi makes surprise comeback

Carlos Agassi, a.k.a. Amir of Rap, thought he'd never make another album. He has settled into the regular routine of playing celebrity basketball thrice weekly and judging beauty contests.

But fate stepped in when he least expected it. One day, his girlfriend, half-British, half-Filipino Margo Midwinter discovered Carlos' music files in his laptop. Out came a treasure trove of rap tracks Carlos composed and stored for five years.

Margo found one of the six tracks extra special. Its title is "Kapayapaan," after which Carlos would later name his comeback album.

"I don't know how to speak Tagalog, but I like this song," she told the surprised Carlos.

He was not exactly jumping up and down for joy. Carlos left the music scene and wasn't sure if he can make a successful comeback.

No self-confidence

"Sa sobrang walang trust na ko sa sarili ko, I asked Margo to just burn a CD and text friends for feedback once it's done," he recalled.

Margo burned all six tracks in the file, sent text messages and - - lo and behold — got a reply. Star Records' Artist and Repertoire (A&R) consultant Jonathan Manalo wanted to set a meeting with the recording company's chair, Marivic Benedicto no less.

The Star Records boss liked what she heard and gave the go signal for the album, "Kapayapaan" and its six other tracks. The album and the title track's music video will be launched on the noontime show "ASAP 2012" on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Carlos knows he owes his recording comeback to Margo, who at 22, is 10 years his junior.

"She's my lucky charm," he beams. Carlos has proposed marriage but Margo wants both of them to save first.

Thus, Carlo's prayer is, "Lord, thank you at binigay mo sa akin ang babaeng hinihingi ko. Sana lang marami kaming pera."

Margo, who agreed to make the Philippines her home someday, countered, "If that's the case, then we'd be lazy!"

With sensible Margo by his side, Carlos is always in good hands.
