JV Ejercito’s dream

It's but natural — even expected — for Senatoriable JV Ejercito to promise big things for the entertainment world if and when he makes it in 2013. His parents — former president Joseph `Erap' Estrada and Guia Gomez — have showbiz roots. Even his brother, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, is a familiar face on the big and small screen.

So when he told the entertainment press, "I want to make the Philippines the Broadway capital of Asia," no one was surprised. After all, his parents have the necessary connections to people who can help him do this.

Aside from culture, the San Juan City representative who pushed for higher government subsidy for state universities also believes "the best way to fight poverty is for families to have a college graduate." That's why JV is proud that President Aquino saw the wisdom of his suggestion.

And now that the cybercrime is talk of the town, JV, himself a victim of a hacked Facebook account, is all for amendments to the controversial Anti-Cybercrime Law.

"I disagree with provisions that curtail freedom of expression," he points out.

But he will continue to tap social networks to make a stand, announce his positions and promote causes.

"I use Facebook and Twitter to communicate with ordinary citizens. These accounts are my links to students and organizations. I get to feel the pulse of the people. It's my way of interacting with them."

JV makes it a point to reply to all Facebook posts and compose his own Twitter messages on anything and everything under the sun.

As for his rift with Jinggoy, JV they have gotten over their differences in deference to Erap, who told his politician-sons, "Kung gusto nyong humaba ang buhay ko, magkabati na kayo."

Now, Erap can rest easy with the thought that his sons have finally ended a battle that has been going on since they were that high and being compared to each other (it didn't help that Jinggoy and JV both became San Juan mayor).

Meantime, JV hopes to get his own wish: to become a senator with the help of showbiz friends, like his top endorser Sam Pinto. He is confident she can give him the all-important youth votes next year.

As for Sam, she has promised Yahoo! Philippines OMG! she will discuss this latest politics-related development in her life once she's ready.

For now, we just have to wait and see.
