Cee Lo sends Cheesa home on ‘The Voice’

In last week's elimination show, Cee Lo Green saved FilAm singer Cheesa Laureta from going home. Yesterday (Monday, US time), Cheesa managed to survive elimination when Cee Lo sent James Massone packing. James did a weak version of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" and deserved to leave the show. That left Cheesa, Jamar Rogers and Juliet Simms competing for the two slots today. The viewers chose to save Jamar Rogers who was aided by a fiery set and back-up dancers as he sang "It's My Life."

Cheesa and Juliet had to perform again and impress their coach to stay on the show. Cheesa sang Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone." For the life of me, I don't know why she would choose a song that deals with departures. Juliet tackled Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn." Blake Shelton believes Juliet should stay because the fans would applaud that decision. Christina Aguilera admits that although Cheesa has "gone a long way," she's always been a fan of Juliet. Cheesa is in tears as she waits for Cee Lo's decision. Unfortunately, her coach decides that he's not going to save her a second time.

That's too bad because she had a beautiful performance yesterday. Just like Jessica Sanchez, Cheesa is a big fan of Whitney Houston. She sang "I Have Nothing" which merited a standing ovation from Christina Aguilera who commented, "I must applaud you for your courage. I know what it's like to sing a Whitney Houston song. Those are huge shows to fill. You managed to do your own thing." Cee Lo gave her an excellent review as well. "You did an exceptional job. I'm so excited about you.

Judging from the performances of the four members that I watched on You Tube, Cheesa outshone everyone else by a mile. I may be based but that is my honest opinion. So it's regrettable that the American audience did not recognize Cheesa's excellence. I haven't seen today's performances so I don't know how she did but Cee Lo probably saw something in Juliet's performance that convinced him that Cheesa should go. Watch the elimination shows of "The Voice" tonight and tomorrow, Thursday on AXN (Channel 49 on Sky) at 7:15 p.m.

Our kababayan shouldn't despair at the way things turned out. She got a lot of exposure on this show and I'm sure some record producer is just waiting in the wings to offer her a recording contract. Her stint on "The Voice" is only the beginning of what I feel will be a successful career in the music industry.

Pinoys here and abroad are now concentrating on how Jessica will do this week as she joins the Top 6 on "American Idol." After Jessica's dramatic save two weeks ago, Colton Dixon's elimination last week was another big shocker on "AI." He was seen as a frontrunner and it was his first time on the dreaded Bottom 3 but he got booted out by the viewers anyway. Hollie Cavanagh and Elise Testone are regulars on the Bottom 3 but have managed to get saved every time.

Pinoys in the US are getting organized to make sure Jessica doesn't leave the show this early. Last week, "AI" received 53 million responses compared to the previous week's over 30 million votes. I have a feeling the FilAms had something to do with the record-breaking numbers. I hope they don't lose their enthusiasm for Jessica's victory.
