#MrsY: Karylle's biggest lessons from her church wedding

If you're a bride-to-be, get tips from Mrs Y herself here:

CHURCH

Church: San Antonio de Padua Parish, Pooc, Silang, Cavite
Officiating Priest: Father Eugene Elivera

If you are also a Catholic, here are some tips for the Church ceremony:

1. PAPERS. The number of papers and permits, wedding banns, seminars or requirements in general can be a little bit overwhelming. Make sure to know all your deadlines because you need to meet them.  It helps to be friends with your officiating priest because they will guide you through this journey.

2. MISSALETTE. My matron of honor Trina Velilla-Milan asked me about our missalette. Since we were already over-budget at the time, it was one of the things I felt we could do away with.  Trina didn't allow me to go along with my plan because the missalette is a very important guide for everyone during the most important part of the wedding, the ceremony itself. I'm glad that she insisted and I'm very thankful that it was my barkada's wedding gift to us. Love projects are the best!

3. MUSIC. I was very happy to work with a very knowledgable and professional group such as Vocalismo. I was part of the Poveda Music Ministry in high school and I wanted the music in the mass to be special. Yael wanted to make sure that the whole church would sing along so we chose all the popular versions of the liturgical songs. There are some love songs that are allowed to be played in the church but you have to ask the officiating priest to guide you.

4.THE WALK. Ninong Kuya Kim told me that like his beautiful wife Ate Fely, I should walk down the isle slowly! He said you should "savor every single second." So, I took my time and I smiled and said hi to as many people as I could.

5. THE KISS. According to my Matron of Honor Trina Velilla-Milan, the kiss is best when paired with a hug. This is a tip given to her by our photographer Pat Dy.  She was absolutely right!

Tips from our officiating priest Father Eugene Elivera:

Wedding Day should be the most spiritual day in a couple's life. "... the two becomes one" underscores a spiritual event. As such, more than anything else spiritual preparation should be prior to other wedding concerns like flowers, dresses, foods, etc. It is important that the couple seeks advice from friends (priest-friends & couple-friends especially) who are more spiritually inclined. I am thankful to have journeyed with Yael & Karylle as they were preparing for their biggest day. Theirs was a day of multiple miracles because of their "conjugal" efforts to prepare themselves spiritually, together with their respective families at that.

My favorite moments in the church:

1. As I had hoped, the church was filled with people we love. It's the most wonderful feeling. The room was filled with love and we were all going to pray for our marriage because we want God to be at the center of it.

2. Since my husband Yael is from a band Sponge Cola, he was very particular about the music in the entire wedding. For the bridal march, we tried to do away with the traditional Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" in C major, written in 1842 or the Bridal Chorus or Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D.  He wanted Sponge Cola guitarist and our groomsman Armo Armovit to create what he likes to call a "Wall of Sound"with his electric guitar. It's essentially a spontaneous free flowing piece of music that reacts to the setting, the mood, the experience. In turn. It affects the march as well. It's like the sound you'd hear upon realizing that you're staring at eternity.

3. If you are from Poveda, you might know that I used to sing the responsorial psalm during most masses. One of the MRS Most requested songs was "Shelter me, O God."

Marian Santiago of Vocalismo sang my favorite Responsorial Psalm.  She played Tuptim during the "King and I" run and she was also with us in "Cinderella" in both in Resorts World Manila.

4. Ninong Gary Valenciano is one of the first people who knew about our blooming love story. Yael and the Valencianos or the Vees have their own closeness and of course our family too given that Tito Gary and my mom are "batchmates" at work singing together since the 80s. It was truly wonderful to hear him sing "I will be here" during communion

5. Peace be with you. Like a little girl, I checked to see if my mom and dad who separated when I was young, would say "peace" to each other...and they did!

6. We forgot to prepare the flowers to throw to us as we walked out of the church.  I heard that our super sweet Ninang Vicki Belo and veil sponsor Tim Yap rushed to the flower arrangements, tore the petals and distributed them to the guests by the door. I would have to say, this was the most surreal moment for me. I was about to cry, but when I looked up at the falling petals, I was just enveloped with the love that was being showered upon us.
