‘Bonifacio’ producer slams MMFF results

Robin Padilla receives the FPJ Memorial Award for Film Excellence for 'Bonifacio'/NPPA Images

Bonifacio lead actor Robin Padilla doesn’t mind losing the coveted Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Actor trophy to English Only, Please’s Derek Ramsay, even while cameramen, expecting he’d get the award, rushed to where he (Robin) was seated minutes before the winner was announced at the PICC Plenary Hall on Saturday, December 27.

“Happy na siya sa Youth Choice Award na nakuha ng Bonifacio (which got nine awards, including Best Picture),” Robin’s manager Betchay Vidanes told Yahoo Philipines.

The action star has been vocal about the film's intention to target the youth as the hope of the fatherland.

He did not talk to the press who waited to get his statement and exited at the backstage after the awards rites.

The film’s producer, Rina Navarro, did not share Robin’s feelings, however.

Navarro questioned why ‘Bonifacio’ won Best Picture but lost in the Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director race.

She let off steam in her Facebook post.

“Hanggang ngayon si Andres Bonifacio ay dinadaya pa rin. Salamat sa awards. Nakakapagtaka lang na ang best picture hindi nanalo ng best actor and actress and director. And it is really painful to say that despite this success there are real traitors in this country who will slap you in the face, celebrate victory with your competitors to hurt other people. Tejeros convention 2014! And how is that na si Robin Padilla pa ang pinag announce nila ng best actress?! am RINA NAVARRO and I am not afraid of the truth. ROBIN and DIREK ENZO ang aking pagbibigay respeto sa galing niyo. Alam ng tao ang totoo at lalabas ito. Roy and Josel hands up to the design. To the press, please reveal the truth. This status is my own decision. GOD BLESS US ALL.”

Earlier, Robin told the audience at the PICC that 'Bonifacio' has earned only P10-million so far, a long way off from its staggering budget of P100-million.  He appealed to everyone to go to the theaters and watch the biopic, which also stars Vina Morales, Daniel Padilla, Jasmine Curtis, Isabel Oli, RJ Padilla, Cholo Barretto and others  and is directed by Enzo Willliams.
