'Diablo' is Cinemalaya 2012's biggest winner

Director Mes de Guzman’s “Diablo” emerged the biggest winner of the 8th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival held at the CC Main Theater on Sunday, July 29, when it won five awards, namely Best Actress for Ama Quiambao, Best Film, Best Direction, Best Cinematography for Tristan Salas  and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema), all in the New Breed Full-Length category.

“Victor” (Shorts Category), “Posas” (Directors Showcase) also received the  Best Film Award for their respective categories. Sheron Dayoc and Raymond Red shared Best Director awards with De Guzman.

Kristoffer King won Best Actor for his performance in Paul Sta. Ana’s “Oros” in the New Breed Full-Length Category.

The Best Actor Award for the Directors Showcase Category award went to “Bwakaw’s” Eddie Garcia who received a standing ovation, while Iza Calzado, Janice de Belen, Agot Isidro and Judy Ann Santos got  the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Awards as an ensemble in the same category for “Mga Mumunting Lihim.”

Anita Linda, who won Best Performance of a Supporting Actress (New Breed) for “Santa Niña”,  received a standing ovation.

“Ruweda” by Hannah Espia, “Ang Nawawala” by Marietta Jamora and “Bwakaw” by Jun Robles Lana were given the Audience Choice Awards for their respective categories, while “Manenaya” and “Kamera Obskura” won the Special Jury Prize.
