Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado’s Best Actor and Best Actress win last December 27, 2014, has done wonders for the box-office performance of their Metro Manila Filmfest (MMFF) entry, “English Only, Please.”

From one of the bottom four at the start of the filmfest, the romantic comedy has moved up to number four as of Thursday, January 1.

Higher box-office receipts

Dominic Du of the MMFF executive committee told Yahoo Philippines that the list of the Top Four entries as announced by MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) chair Francis Tolentino last December 26, 2014 has remained the same except for “English Only, Please”, which replaced “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2” at number four.

The Top Four MMFF entries as of January 1 are “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin,” “Feng Shui 2,” “My Big Bossing” and “English Only, Please,”

Du did not say just how much the Top Four earned.  But he revealed that the annual filmfest has already earned P701-million as of January 1, 2015, surpassing its gross box-office receipts in January 1, 2014 by around five percent.

The MMFF, which is now on its 40th year, opened last Christmas day and will end on Wednesday, January 7.
