Michael Bublé to Pinoy fans: ‘Expect the greatest show on earth’

Canadian crooner Michael Bublé is not a fan of promises. But he could bet that his upcoming January 31 concert in Manila, his first in the Philippines in 10 years, will be the best his Filipino fans could ever see.

The four-time Grammy winner knows the drill.

"I can talk and talk. And I can tell you how great the show is. Because (any) artist who comes to the Philippines—every time they tell you about their show, they tell you it’s the best show; every time they tell you about their movie, it’s the best movie; every time they tell about their new record, it’s the best record I ever made,” the crooner told Yahoo Philippines on January 10 in a phone call from Vancouver.

Our money’s worth

"But,” he continued, “I’m telling you right now, and you can write it down, you can quote me, ‘This is one of the best shows in the world and I’m the best in the world at what I do.’”

The self-confessed people pleaser said what’s important for him is for Filipinos trooping to Mall of Asia Arena to get their good money’s worth.

After all, the concert's ticket price is no joke—from P1590 for seats farthest to the stage to P15,840 for those nearest the singer.

More promises

"When they come to that show, I leave the stage with nothing. I have given them everything I have,” he vowed. "And when I leave that building, I think the Filipino people are gonna see me in a different light. I really do believe that."

Expect more from Michael when he performs here the second time around, he underscored.

"I think this concert is going to blow people away. I don’t think people in the Philippines have any idea of what they’re about to see. They’re about see the greatest show on earth.”

‘Better storyteller, entertainer’

The singer said that 10 years has made him not just a better artist, but a better person.

"I think the last time I came there I think I was just a boy, you know. I think everything was pretty new for me and I think that I’ll come back as a man, I’m a father, I’m a husband,” the 39-year-old singer noted, referring to his wife of 3 years, Argentine actress-model Luisana Lopilato, and one-year-old son Noah. He said both of them will join him in his Manila trip two weeks from now.

"I have a much better perspective on my life now and I honestly think that I’ll come back as a better storyteller and as a better entertainer, and probably a nicer and happier human being so there’s a lot of positives in my life that’ll take me back to the Philippines in a really happy way," he added.

Serious

The good-looking singer, meanwhile, dismissed his looks as playing any significant role in the success he has achieved in the 18 years he has been in the biz.

"I don’t think that’s much to do with anything. The fact is, if you’re a storyteller, you sing well and you’re musical, and you have good a stage presence… I think that’s what matters."

One could sense how the man behind hits like “It's a Beautiful Day,” “Haven't Met You Yet” and “Home,” among others, is serious about his craft.

‘I’m not a model’

"I never thought about myself in that way (good-looking). I’m not an actor, I’m not a model. I’m a singer. When I last came to the Philippines, I was a lot more insecure. I really cared about, you know, ‘Was I funny? Was I charming? Did people like me?’”

Meanwhile, aside from his wife and son, Michael will fly in with his in-laws whom he said are very well connected to Filipinos in Canada.

"They’re so excited to see the Philippines. I’ve talked to them so much about it. And we have so many Filipino friends here in Vancouver. There’s gonna be a lot of people at the show that I know and they’re friends with my family so it’s gonna be very special."
