Suzette Doctolero, creator of gay-themed series “My Husband’s Lover (MHL)”  says hearing news of its nomination in the 2014 International Emmy Awards is like a dream come true.

“It’s like I’m in a state of dream pa. Totoo ba ito?,” she told Yahoo Philippines. “Nomination lang is an early Christmas gift na for me.”

The show, starring Tom Rodriguez, Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo is dubbed the most daring series to hit local television in this largely Christian nation.

Keeping it real

Doctolero said "it would be wonderful” if the lone Philippine nominee this year would win in the telenovela category, but seeing the three other nominees from Canada, Portugal and Brazil keeps the GMA creative boss from setting her expectations too high.

“I’m curious about the other series nominated vs. MHL. I do not want to expect too much for MHL to win, but that would be wonderful syempre.”

The International Emmys announced a total of 40 nominees are vying to win 10 categories on its 42nd year.

19 countries

Nominees span 19 countries, including the Philippines, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Winners will be announced in a ceremony on November 24 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

MHL, which ran from June to October last year, paved the way for Tom and Dennis’ bizarre love team “TomDen.”
