6 K-pop groups hold one-night concert in Manila

SNSD Says It Demanded a No-Heel Performance for ′I Got a Boy′

Manila is a frequent destination of K-pop artists. But this is the first time six K-pop idol groups are staging a concert in one night.

The K-pop idol groups are  Girls’ Generation, EXO (EXO M and EXO K), Infinite, U-Kiss, Tahiti and Tasty.  Their concert, aptly called Dream K-pop Fantasy, is set at the Mall of Asia grounds on Saturday, January 19.

Except for U-Kiss, this is the first time these groups are visiting the country.

Girls’ Generation, the voice behind hit songs “Gee,” “Genie” and “I Got a Boy” is one of the most popular idol groups in South Korea. The members -- Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Yuri, Sunny, Jessica, Tiffany, Yoona, Hyoyeon and Seohyun -- have just released the single “I Got a Boy.” Its music video has over 26 million views and is now second to Psy’s “Gangnam Style” on YouTube.

“We are looking forward to meeting our Philippine fans and please come join us Girls’Generation and participate in watching our event. See you there,” Sooyoung said in a group video message for Filipino fans.

Sungkyu, L, Hoya, Sungyeol, Woohyun, Dongwoo and Sungjong, the dashing boys of Infinite, are just as excited.

“We will be doing a concert with Korea’s top artists. Anticipate our arrival. We will see you at the concert,” Sungkyu said.

Infinite’s subgroup Infinite H has just released its debut album, “Fly High.”

Fan projects

As soon as the concert was announced, local fan clubs started creating projects for their idols.

EXO’s Philippine fan club will create a scrapbook and video message project where members can be as creative as they want in showing support for the 12-member male group.

Infinite’s Filipino Inspirits (the name of Infinite’s fan club) has decided to go nationalistic.

The fan club’s post on its official Facebook account reads, “First of all, we need to show who we are. Hence the Barong Tagalog, to show our heritage. More importantly, we're going to give them something that no other international FC is going to give.”
