Mother knows best.

That’s one of the biggest lessons Amy Perez learned after she met and married radio host Carlo Castillo, her partner of eight years.

Amy recalls how she went ahead with her relationship with former South Border band member Brix Ferraris even if it was a case of you-and-me-against-the world.

Tears of joy

Her mother can’t do anything when Amy married Brix because she was so in love.

Now that the Supreme Court annulled their marriage and Amy tied the knot less than a month ago, her mother can’t help but shed tears of joy.

“Finally tumpak na (ang desisyon) ng anak ko,” Amy gave media gathered at the presscon of ATC Healthcare her interpretation of her mother’s emotional reaction at the wedding.

Carlo not only accepted her for who she is, he plans to go the extra mile by adopting Adi, Amy’s son by Brix.

“Naka-ready si Carlo sa lahat ng yan,” Amy explains.

Father figure

It’s the most natural thing to do, since Carlo stood as Adi’s father figure for the past eight years.

“Lahat ng natutunan ni Adi sa pagiging lalaki nakuha niya kay Carlo,” Amy told Yahoo Philippines.

“Natutunan ni Adi ang pagiging malinis – mula ulo, batok, kili kili, kuko, lahat. Parang military training. Pati ang pagpunta sa barber shop, ang pag-ahit (ng bigote).”

It was also Carlo who followed up Amy’s annulment case even when she lost all hope in ever getting a decision in her favor.

“I thank Carlo kasi siya ang tumutok sa kaso, siya ang ina-update ng lawyer,” says Amy.

The good news came when they least expected it. Amy just gave birth to her third child, Isaiah Joaquin and she was still in the hospital when the much-awaited annulment papers arrived,

Bearer of good news

“Nanganak ako January 2 . Umuwi kami sa bahay January 6. Dumating (ang papers) sa bahay January 4 or 5,” Amy relates.

That’s why the name Isaiah, she goes on, is most fitting for hers and Carlo’s youngest son.

“He’s the bearer of good news.”

The other good news is Amy still feels like a brand-new bride enjoying that glow from her Singapore honeymoon.

She enjoys adding a hyphen before ‘Castillo’ after her maiden name and looks forward to writing “Season’s greetings from the Castillos” on every card that goes with her Christmas gifts.

TV commercial

Amy even kept her first name card as a wife and posted it on her Instagram account.

“Nagkaron kasi ng gala dinner sa cruise namin sa Singapore. Armida Perez ang nakalagay sa ticket ko. Ang daming Pinoy sa barko. Nung nakita ng manager ang name card ko, pinapalitan nya ito agad. “

Noticing how happy the Castillos are, ATC Healthcare tapped the family to appear in a TV commercial for one of its products, Strike Mosquito Repellent.

“First project namin ito as a family at hindi sanay ang mga anak ko. Excited sila. Pero kailangan kausapin sila or i-brief nang mabuti,” Amy the protective mom and wife reveals.

Let others, even some of her showbiz colleagues say all they want. Amy is so happy, she’ll choose marriage over single motherhood anytime.

“Kahit sabihin ng ibang tao na corny or cliché yan, iba pa rin (ang kasal ka). Hindi mo gagawin ito para sa sarili mo pero para sa mga bata.”

Hers and Carlo’s family – especially his late grandfather who prayed that the marriage push through – will surely agree.
