Art pick of the week: Faig Ahmed's glitched-out rugs

Take a peek at the way Azerbaijani textile artist Faig Ahmed reworks traditional floor coverings, with handmade effects inspired by digital corruption and image manipulation techniques.

With his work having been placed on show during March's Art Dubai and at the emirate's Cuadro Art gallery until April 15, Ahmed's distinctive style has curried favor in the Middle East and beyond.

Rugs reinterpreted veer closer to installation art, as pixelizations, swirls, bloats and melts play with culturally preserved carpeting techniques.

The V&A Jameel Prize nominee has been featured on Beautiful Decay, The Grumpy Owl and Stylus as a result of the recent resurgence of interest in his work; he featured prominently in the Wall Street Journal's February profile piece on arts and culture in Azerbaijan capital Baku.

Future exhibition plans include a return to the Cuadro in mid-September, where a selection of carpets, installations, sculptures and miniatures will be on display, tied together by the artist's continuing research into the nature of human perception.
