Asiong Salonga to be shown sans Tikoy’s name

The Metro Filmfest (MMFF) entry “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story” will be shown as scheduled starting tomorrow, Dec. 25, in theaters nationwide after the name of director Tikoy Aguiluz has been removed from the action-drama’s credits.

This was learned from Engineer Ric D. Camaligan, a member of the filmfest executive committee (Execom).

Aguiluz has expressed his wish to have his name removed from the film’s credits and other promo materials. The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has granted Aguiluz’s application for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the movie last Dec. 23.

The director’s lawyer, Cherry Amor told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! that the TRO provides that the director’s name be taken out from the credits  and other promo materials of the movie.

“May mga inedit sa mga ginawa ni direk  Tikoy. Gusto lang naming i-protect yung rights niya,” Amor explained.

Aguiluz has also complained about the producer’s ‘unauthorized re-shoot and music laying’ of the movie.

Meanwhile, Aguiluz has monitored the film after his name has been stricken out and reported that things are okay so far.  He added that he will check the film screenings tomorrow.

“Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story” got an A rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board. It stars Laguna Governor E.R. Ejercito in the title role, Carla Abellana, Phillip Salvador, Baron Geisler, Dennis Padilla, John Regala and others.  Shot in black and white, it tells the story of Nicasio Salonga, Tondo’s notorious gang leader.
