Bazooka Rocks, 18-band music fest, is weatherproof

What’s better than attending a two-day music festival?

Attending a music festival indoors--especially when the weather outside is frightful.

On August 30 and 31, PulpLiveWorld will present its annual Bazooka Rocks Indoor Music Festival in SMX Convention Center.

Now on its third year, Bazooka Rocks focuses primarily on punk, pop-punk, metalcore, alternative, and rock acts (and all points in between, really).

Past acts included All Time Low, The Maine, Anberlin, We Came As Romans and Uchusentai:NOIZ, to name a modest few.

Weatherproof

The indoor festival idea was a way for the producers to keep attendees comfy.

No need to literally sweat out a sweltering day or deal with the weather when it’s throwing a habagat tantrum. Inside a hall, it’s always “nighttime,” there is always air-conditioning and, of course, nobody will get lost.

Festival-goers are even encouraged to cosplay; this year’s theme is Alice in Zombieland.

Finch kicks off pre-fest show

Kicking off the festival’s spirit is California-based post-hardcore band Finch with an early pre-festival show on August 7 at the SM Skydome.

While the band has disbanded or gone on hiatus a couple times since forming in 1999, they reunited in 2012 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their album “What It Is to Burn” (which includes the hits “Letters to You” and the title track).

Their new album “Back to Oblivion” is scheduled for release next month.

Festival lineup

On Day 1 Bazooka Rocks is featuring: frequent Manila visitor The Used, New Jersey quartet Saves The Day, the post-hardcore Senses Fail, mainstream crossover success Taking Back Sunday together with Cebu’s Tiger Pussy, punk/hardcore/ambient rockers Brickcity’s, Manila’s Runway Crimes, and former Paramita vocalist/drummer Ria Bautista going solo.

The lineup for Day 2 includes Brit rockers You Me At Six, New York-based pop-punk outfit We Are The In Crowd, American pop rockers The Summer Set, the four-sibling pop band Echosmith, the Japanese metalcore Coldrain, together with the homegrown contingent of Chicosci, the all-female Nyctinasty, the melodic December Avenue and the self-described “synth dance rock” group Paranoid City, and the happy pop of Gracenote.
