Listeners expecting a "bitter album" from singer-actress Nikki Gil now that she is set to record a new album will probably be surprised that she is opting to do the opposite.

"I never went to saying pagpapahingahin ko muna ang puso ko and all that bitterness," said Nikki moments before she signed a record contract with Universal Records last Thursday afternoon, March 5, at the UR office along Quezon Avenue, Q.C.

It will be Nikki’s  first recording since her break-up with long-time boyfriend Billy Crawford.

Celebration of love, music

Will her songs touch on her highly-publicized relationship?

She assured, "The album will definitely be about the celebration of love and music which for me is the most beautiful combination. Hindi ito malungkot na album as you might expect."

It has been four years since Nikki dropped out of the music scene and concentrated on acting, highlighted by her villainess turn in the TV series "Maria Mercedes."

Asked if her role in that teleserye might have made her unlikeable in the eyes of many, Nikki replied,

"Matatalino na ang audience ngayon. Gone are the days when they would hate you in public because they can't separate you from your kontrabida role in a soap."

Mature music

Eyeing a collaborative work with the likes of Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera, Nikki sees her journey back to recording as an exciting one, to be defined by "a more mature sound." She even intends to work with rappers Gloc-9 and Quest, as well as crooner Richard Poon.

"Everything is possible. I may write all the songs or some friends in the industry will contribute or I'll do covers. Or a mixture of those three."

She added, "Recording is another aspect of me that I want to go back to kasi nagsimula naman talaga ako as a singer."
