'Bloodborne' succumbs to 44m speedrun

Notorious for its unrelenting difficulty and deliberately obscure mechanics, March 24 release "Bloodborne" has been beaten in under an hour by one particularly inventive player.

Twitch streamer and YouTube uploader Oginam_TV set himself the task of getting to the end of big name PlayStation 4 game "Bloodborne" in record time by any means possible.

Three glitches prove crucial in providing a speedy route to the finish line: two allow him up and over an early dividing wall, providing a shortcut to a late game area.

A third meant he could duplicate key inventory items many times over, making further passage far easier.

All three exploits are expected to be patched out in a future update.

"Bloodborne" is the third game from Japanese developer From Software since carving its own genre furrow with PlayStation 3 hit "Demon's Souls."

Two acclaimed predecessors continued the trend of combining extreme difficulty with slow but steady progress in a fantasy realm filled with dark corners, traps, and grotesque monsters.

But where "Dark Souls" and "Dark Souls II" had been available on Xbox 360 and PC as well as PS3, Victorian Gothic "Bloodborne" was the fruit of a second exclusive deal between From and Sony PlayStation.
