Bridalwear for spring/summer 2016 gets a dose of flower power

Bridal fashion next season is all about floral motifs, if the gorgeous designs shimmying down the catwalk at the New York Bridal Show were anything to go by.

From delicate, wispy floral accents to cute appliqués and full-on embroidery, the big designers at the show put a lovely blooming twist on wedding gowns for Spring 2016.

British brand Temperley's Marianna Summer 16 collection was characterized by romantic, ethereal and decadent dresses in silks and laces, adorned with intricate embroidery and appliqué detailing. Floral and graphic details added a soft, bohemian element to the designs, as seen on the Cressida and Hermoine dresses. Art deco-inspired crystal embroidery also provided eye-catching detail. "This collection offers a bride the perfect blend of functionality and absolute fantasy," says designer Alice Temperley. "Dresses to dance all night in -- with or without your shoes..."

Floral whimsy was also on show at Vera Wang, where silk flowers appeared as trims on floor-sweeping hemlines, as accents on the overlay of tumbled tulle skirts and as cuff detailing. The pioneering bridal designer even used silk floral embroidery on back straps for a deeply romantic effect.

Blooms were also at the heart of Carolina Herrera's collection, which was inspired by "the beauty, sensuality and delicacy of the fragrant White Jasmine flower." It was brought to life in the designs via hand-stitched embroidery giving the illusion of cascading blossoms. Feather and organza floral appliqués provided a modern take on the approach while remaining dreamy.

Florals came in bold and pretty at Oscar de la Renta, imprinted on sheer, long sleeves and necklines for maximum impact, and often paired with audacious blossom headbands and hair accessories. Venezuelan designer Angel Sanchez took a similar approach, crafting overt floral motifs into sensual sheer backs and midsection panels.
