Cannes 2014: Nicole Garcia to judge debut films

The actress and director will preside over the jury for the Caméra d'Or, which is awarded annually to a debut feature, festival organizers announced April 18.

Nicole Garcia will take the torch from Agnès Varda, who headed the Caméra d'Or jury in 2013.

"I hope to be worthy of the honor, bask in the joy and do my best to deliver on the mission," Garcia stated.

Created in 1978, the Caméra d'Or was awarded last year to "Ilo Ilo," the first feature from Singaporean director Anthony Chen. The 2014 winner will be named on Saturday, May 24 during the awards ceremony of the 67th Cannes Film Festival.

The jury of the Caméra d'Or considers the debut feature films screened in the official selection as well as in the Critics' Week and Directors' Fortnight parallel sections.
