Casting announcements: 'Bourne 5,' 'All The Way,' 'Gambit'

US actor Tommy Lee Jones

Tommy Lee Jones is announced for the fifth film in the "Bourne" franchise, Frank Langella is being cast opposite Bryan Cranston, and Channing Tatum is in negotiations over "Gambit."

- 'Bourne 5' nets Tommy Lee Jones -

Veteran character actor Tommy Lee Jones is joining the July 2016 installment to the "Bourne" spy thriller franchise.

The film will be the third directed by "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" helmer Paul Greengrass, and his fourth made in collaboration with lead Matt Damon (after "Green Zone").

Tommy Lee Jones is added to a growing cast that already includes a returning Julia Stiles and series newcomer Alicia Vikander, with Variety linking Jones with a senior CIA role.

- Langella for 'All the Way' -

Frank Langella looks ready to join the HBO adaptation of Robert Shenkkan play "All the Way," which has "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston as its principal actor.

The political biography has Cranston as US president Lyndon Baines Johnson, who assumed office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, and successfully tabled the anti-discrimination Civil Rights Act of 1964.

It was as 37th president, Richard Nixon, that Langella received his Academy Award nomination for his performance in 2008's "Frost/Nixon."

Should he accept HBO's advances, Langella would take the role of Senator Richard Russell, writes Deadline, a senior politician whose stance could have become major obstacle to Cranston's 36th president.

- 'Gambit' without Tatum? -

Channing Tatum's negotiation over the lead role in future X-Men spin-off "Gambit" may have a ring of familiarity about it.

That's because Tatum has already been doing plenty of PR for the film, having been linked with the role in May 2014, confirmed in October, and appearing at the San Diego Comic Con with the rest of the X-Men crew earlier in July.

Rupert Wyatt of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is to direct and Lea Seydoux ("Spectre") has been cast as co-star, with filming to start late 2015 for an October 2016 release.

But that ride might be coming to an end -- or at least be open to rerouting -- as TheWrap reports he may be considering a departure from the project.

One suggestion is that the A-list actor, now well known for both comedy ("21 Jump Street") and more serious fare ("Foxcatcher"), would like to direct his first film, with "Gambit" producer Reid Carolin also on board.

Carolin also worked with Tatum on "Magic Mike XXL," "22 Jump Street," and "White House Down."
