Comparison with sister Anne not an issue with Jasmine

As the younger sister of Anne Curtis, it's inevitable for Jasmine Curtis-Smith to be compared to the Kapamilya star. But Jasmine  said the comparison isn't always a bad thing.

“Of course, meron pong takot sa akin na baka meron mag-end up (kami) sa comparisons. Pero, the way I see it, maganda pag kinu-compare kami kasi nakikita yung differences namin lalo na as a person. I don't think that pointing out the differences is such a bad thing,” she told Yahoo! OMG Philippines and other members of the press at the launch of “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum” last Saturday, September 3.

Jasmine explained that the comparisons will allow people to see how different she is from Anne.

Aside from constant comparisons, is Jasmine prepared for the intrigues that will come her way as a primetime star and JC de Vera’s leading leading lady in “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum?”

“Tingin ko kasi, hindi mo mapaghahandaan yung mga issue. Pero I guess it comes with confidence na lang sa sagot mo, and honesty with how you answer. Kung hindi ako kumportable, just find a way to say your answer in an honest way pero in a way na you're still answering the question but not to the full potential,” Jasmine explained.

She added, “Di ka dapat gumawa ng sikreto kasi yun yung mahirap e. Pag may sikreto na, yun na e, yun na yung simula ng mga intriga.”

As for possible comments that she got her lead role too quickly considering she's the newest kid on the block among the TV5 Princesses, she said: “I'm scared that other people think that. Pero for me, well, blessings come to us at different times. It's great that mine came at such an early point in my career and my life. If they find that something bad, I just think it's sad because I think we should be happy with the many blessings that we get. And we should be happy for others as well, because we don't know what they're going through.”

Education is priority

It's been more than half a year since TV 5 launched Jasmine as a TV5 Princess. But apart from a number of guest appearances, she hasn't had a regular show until now. Jasmine, after all, is based in Australia, where she's finishing her high school education.
Is Jasmine nervous  people will  not be as receptive to “Utol” as they were when she was introduced to the public?

“Definitely. You can never be sure with showbiz e. Kasi, one day you can be the most famous person. You're away for a while or may gawin ka lang na mali, iba na talaga ang tingin ng mga tao sa sayo,” she said.

But Jasmine also said her manager, Betchay Vidanes, did a good job in making her presence felt while she was in Australia.

Despite her blossoming showbiz career, Jasmine still wants to give priority to her education.

“Pag nasa school ako, yun yung main focus ko. And when I'm here my main focus is to work and make my career bloom as much as possible,” she said. “And you never know. Things may go around and I may not have a career tomorrow. You never know. I may not be successful. So I need education. It's a back-up as something that's gonna keep me alive in the future.”

Would she consider moving to the Philippines to finish her college education?

“Pinag-uusapan pa rin ng manager ko (Betchay Vidanes) and my mom. For me, either way, magwo-work naman para sa akin. I don't know kung dun ako magco-college or dito. Basta  eventually I get a degree in college. That's one of my main goals,” Jasmine explained.

She added, “I'm hoping na the entertainment industry is something I can work in for a long time kasi I'm really enjoying it so far and I don't find it as a hassle na I find it like, 'hay naku, I have to go to this.' I just enjoy it and I'm loving it so far. Kahit di ako artista. Kahit writer ako or director.”

“Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum” starts September 12 on TV5.
