David Beckham appears in a new short, filmed by Guy Ritchie in Los Angeles to promote the latest collection of David Beckham bodywear at H&M.
The 1:40 short starts with Beckham waving off his family on a sunny LA morning. Losing his bathrobe which remains trapped in the door of the family Range Rover (Beckham's wife Victoria, famously designed a limited edition Evoque version for the 4x4 manufacturer), our hero's misery is compounded as the front door shuts behind him, locking him out of the house as the car speeds away.
With a resigned sigh, Beckham tweaks his army green boxer shorts and gives chase. Running through backyards, disrupting tennis games, soccer practices and the hard work of Beckham t-shirt sporting gardeners, and losing his own tank top on the way, the star puts his fitness to the test as he sprints to catch up with the car.
The newly signed Paris Saint-Germain winger then swims the length of a pool as Angelino models watch sipping cocktails and vaults a car occupied by two bemused paparazzi photographers. The advert ends as a tourist bus of dazed celebrity spotters pulls up. Undaunted, David tweaks his boxers and is off in a flash!
"He makes the perfect leading man," said director Guy Ritchie, who described the process as less like shooting an advert and more "like directing a short film."
For his part, Beckham enjoyed getting his teeth into the role: "I loved doing it and people will get to see me play a role I've never done before!" Combining the talents of the two Brits seemed to pay off, "it was great to work with Guy, who is an amazing director," added Beckham.
French-born creative director Marc Atlan, who produced campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, APC and Comme des Garçons also worked with the Beckham and H&M teams on the concept for the action-packed ad.
The David Beckham Bodywear Spring/Summer collection is in stores now.
