Derek still has no time for love

After rumors  that he and Cristine Reyes are dating, Derek Ramsay is now being linked to Cristalle Henares, daughter of celebrity doctor Vicki Belo.

But the Kapatid actor is quick to deny that he has “intimate feelings” for Cristalle—or for anyone.

“Wala muna akong oras para sa love life,” Derek told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! and other members of the press during the MVP Group of Companies’ outreach program at the Kasiglahan Village Elementary School in Montalban, Rizal on Thursday, March 14.

The “Kidlat” star doesn’t want to say he’s getting used to being linked to various women, although Derek is aware it’s part of his job description as an actor.

“It’s weird, I’m being linked to all these beautiful women. And ano ba ang nagawa ko to be linked to all these beautiful women?” he quipped.

Derek added: “But I don’t think it’s something to get used to. Ako nga, gusto kong mag-apologize, especially doon sa di ko kilala, na nadadamay pa ang pangalan nila.”

‘Best time of my career’

What’s keeping the Kapatid star busy? There’s “Kidlat,” the TV5’s superhero fantasy series that has earned unprecedented following, specifically among pre-teens. It’s a different territory for Derek, who played the token hunk in most of his major TV projects prior to his move to TV5.

“I’m thankful. Another blessing was given to me. You know, ang daming nagsabi na laos na ako and all that, my career has gone done,” he said.

“But I think this is the best time of my career.”

Derek tries not to look too far ahead in his career, although his next project with TV5 might be another reality show. He’s also looking forward to a movie this year.

“I want to go back to doing movies this year. But I don’t want to be selfish. I don’t want to do everything and take everything. I want to take things one step at a time,” he shared. “For me, kung walang mabigay na pelikula, walang mabigay na project, ito muna ang focus.”

Can he play a  gay role?

Despite his string of successful movies, Derek said he’s not that picky when it comes to choosing roles.  Box-office results aren’t his main consideration when saying yes to a movie, he added.

“I really want to expand and see how far I can take my talent,” he said.

Derek further said, “Right now, I’m tagged as the guy who is always cheating. Before, I’m always the guy who is dying in the movies. So, of course, I want to expand the roles that I play. I want to be challenged. I’m a guy who wants to be challenged.”

If expanding his horizons means playing a gay role, would he say yes?

“I’d do a gay role. If they think I’m ready, if I’m up for the task, then yeah,” Derek said, noting he’s done the gay-friendly movie “Praybeyt Benjamin” with Vice Ganda.

Right now, though, he’s really proud with what he has done for his first TV5 series.

“When the show’s over, when I build my new house, my gonna have my costume up on a wall or in a corner in my room because I’m very proud of my accomplishment.”
