Pinoys do not have to look far to discover a treasure-trove of superheroes. The Filipino Komiks era may have long gone but the Pinoy superhero lives on, this time in several movies and TV shows that depict the good vs evil theme. Think "Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako", GMA-7's past shows "Darna", "Capt. Barbell", ABS-CBN's "Super Inggo" and "Lastikman" among others.

And 2013 is no exception. TV5 recently launched its first superhero drama series "Kidlat" starring one of the country's most sought-after actors, Derek Ramsay.

From hosting the Kapatid network's coverage of the Olympics to the Philippine adaptation of the "Amazing Race," Derek returns to acting as Voltaire, a mechanic who transforms himself into the crime-fighting superhero Kidlat. "This is the coolest thing I've ever done" said the actor, who admitted shooting the new series required so much time and effort.

"[It's] stressful on the body -- wearing the costumes, doing fight scenes. Palagi akong nasusugatan. We finish [shooting] around 7, 8 a.m.," he revealed.

But all the hard work and stress from back-to-back controversies paid off. Like his flawed character in the series, Derek silently dealt with his demons, combating the negative with a more positive outlook in life.

"There have been some rough patches in 2012. There's an unfortunate breakup and all that but I thought my 2012 was better than 2011 in the sense that I am continuously being blessed. TV5 has given me projects after projects... I can't complain. I'm starting [2013] with this cool project Kidlat. TV5 is already talking to me about other projects but I said preno muna, focus muna tayo sa Kidlat." he said.

Even if Derek wants to take things one project at a time, work always follows him - not that he's complaining.

"There's a movie lined up for me. Baka nga daw may pelikula ako with Cristine Reyes and Claudine Barretto (another "affair" movie) but nothing's definite. I'm going through the script now. It's a pretty cool movie. TV5 is presenting movies to me now, and then may reality show na gusto nilang umpisahan but that's gonna require me to disappear again for another month."

So does more work mean no love for Derek?

"Wala pa rin. There's no update at all. I've been really working so talagang wala ring oras." Derek however admitted  he saw his special non-showbiz lady recently. "Siyempre nagbigayan kami ng gifts."

The actor also put an end to rumors linking him to Cristine,  whom he fondly calls "A A" [read as ah ah].

"It's true that Cristine and I and some friends went out and when we go out people are gonna see us. I'm not hiding anything that's why we're comfortable going out with each other," he clarified. "Bro ko si Rayver. Rayver comes to the house and we play basketball together. Si Cristine naging leading lady ko sa "No Other Woman". I think Cristine already answered that na sila pa rin... I'm not committed to anyone. I'm married to my job."
