Disney preparing for live action 'Mulan' remake

'Mulan'

A significant script acquisition at Disney has indicated that a new version of award-winning "Mulan" is on the cards.

The 1998 animated film, based on an ancient Chinese poem, was nominated for an Oscar and two Golden Globes for its musical score, and won ten accolades at the animation-centric Annie Awards.

This new script has been provided by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, notes The Hollywood Reporter, and it could prove to be a scriptwriting breakthrough for the pair.

Chris Bender and J.C. Spink of "We're The Millers" are attached to produce what is one of a number of live-action remakes for Disney.

Martin and Hynek had won a scriptwriting competition sponsored by the producers in 2009; in 2012, they were finalists in an Amazon Studios contest.

Following "Maleficent" and "Cinderella," Disney already has "Beauty and the Beast," its version of "The Jungle Book," and "Dumbo" in production.
