Dream on? Nah, Aerosmith WILL play Manila in May

UPDATE (March 8, 2013)--Manila is going to be part of Aerosmith’s 2013 world tour, which begins in New Zealand in April and lands in Manila on May.

It is the first time the band is playing the Philippines.

Vernon Go, president of presenting company Pulp World Live, said in an email interview that it took them a year to negotiate Aerosmith's Manila date.

"It is an absolute honor to have the opportunity to bring in America's greatest rock and roll band. It is an honor to bring their music and live performance to our country and be the first in Southeast Asia to do so," he enthused about finally getting the band to agree to perform here.

"We know the Philippines is a singing nation and we know that Filipinos over so many generations from young and old love and sing so many of AEROSMITH's songs... it is just incredible to bring this LIFE EXPERIENCE to our country," he added.

The tour supports Aerosmith’s new album “Music from Another Dimension,” which was released in November of 2012. It is Aerosmith’s 15th album in a career that has spanned 43 years, generated at least 17 platinum records, and given birth to some of the biggest rock classics.

Older fans will remember "Dream On" from the band’s 1973 self-titled debut album and the hard rock hit “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” from 1987 and “Janie’s Got a Gun” from 1990.

Hip-hop fans also know Aerosmith for writing “Walk this Way,” famously covered by rappers Run- D.M.C., which opened the collaboration of rock and rap.

Later hits include “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” (1998), which was in the soundtrack of the movie “Armageddon.”

Frontman Steven Tyler, who is the dad of the actress Liv, was also judge for two seasons in “American Idol.” He was a huge fan of contestant Jessica Sanchez, predicting she would win (she didn’t).
