Eric hopes people remember Dolphy with smiles on their faces

Dolphy’s son Eric Quizon hopes people will continue to remember his father with smiles on their faces, as he has “made many Filipino people happy.”

“Hopefully, people will remember him as a man who is a good actor, a good father, and a good human being. I think he embodies all of that,” Eric said in an interview at the necrological service in the ABS-CBN compound on Wednesday night, July 11.

He also hopes people will have fond memories of Dolphy.

“My dad has made a lot of people happy, he has made a name for himself and made many Filipino people happy. Sana when they remember him, when they say Dolphy, I hope it will put a smile on their face, (they will) chuckle or laugh whenever they say or hear his name,” Eric said.

Aside from bringing joy and laughter to their family, Dolphy instilled values

Lesson on humility

One of these values, humility, enabled  Dolphy to remain humble despite his achievements.

“Ever since, my dad has always told me to be humble. Because humility is really innate in him, and I think that was my dad’s secret. He is so humble that people can relate to him and admire him,” Eric added.

He revealed that he and the rest of the family drew strength from each other, and from the people’s love and support  during their ordeal.

The people’s response, he explains, was overwhelming.

“The Quizon family has been very thankful ever since we asked for prayers because we believe the first time we asked for prayers, we got our wish to spend more time with our father. Noong time pa lang na iyon alam na namin kung gaano kadami ang nagmamahal sa kanya at nagpapasalamat kami sa mga tao kasi  pinakita nila yung pagmahahal sa Daddy ko,”  Eric pointed out.

No last wishes

He revealed Dolphy did not reveal his last wishes because his dad didn’t want them to talk and cry about his (Dolphy’s)  condition.

The family has already talked about a lot of issues, naayos na ito even before pa na nalaman na may sakit siya. Since marami kami, ang gusto lang naman ng dad ko ay magkasundo kaming lahat and masasabi ko lang, natutuwa ako dahil yung wish ng daddy ko ay natutupad namin.” Eric disclosed.

He recalls that they understood the  words “I love you”and “Uwi na ako” coming from Dolphy’s mouth (he was unable to talk) during his last days. Eric further described what they went through in the past month when Dolphy was confined at the Makati Medical Center.

“For the past month, like I said, it was like a roller coaster ride for our family. Minsan okay siya, minsan hindi. So, I was hoping na this is just one of these episodes na nahihirapan lang siya then he will surpass this ordeal. But it came to a point when his body could not tolerate the medication already. He was willing, he was fighting, but his body was not.”

Eric described their ordeal as a “roller coaster ride.”

The actor-director shared in his eulogy that  Dolphy’s illness “brought our family together.” And he promised his dad that they will always be one big happy family.

“I want to thank my siblings, my brothers and sisters, and Zsa Zsa (Padilla, Dolphy’s long-time partner)  dahil lahat kami ay masasabi naming nagkakaisa, nagtutulungan kami. We promised our dad na we’re all united and we’re one big happy family,” Eric revealed.
