EXCLUSIVE: Jason Mraz ‘lusts’ after the hidden beauty of the Philippines

When Jason Mraz flies in tonight for his concert with Raining Jane at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 27, it would be his fourth visit to the country.

But he’s never ventured out of Manila, a fact he rues.

“If I were to tell you my stories of adventuring in the Philippines, it’s always Manila,” he tells Yahoo Philippines in an exclusive video interview.

“And yet I follow a Philippine tourism site on my Instagram feed that just makes me really lust after some of the beauty that is hidden within the archipelago,” the 37-year-old singer-songwriter added.

A quick check of his Instagram (@jason_mraz) shows that of the 297 accounts he follows, one is called @The_Philippines.

It shows mostly pristine white-sand beaches and sparkling turquoise waters in places like Siargao, Camiguin, Dumaguete, Romblon, Palawan, Boracay and Tawi-Tawi, among many others.

Special song

The Grammy winner also revealed that “93 Million Miles” is a song that’s particularly special to him.

“I know it’s not a new song but when I sing it, it gives me a sense of home,” the 37-year-old said of the tune that appeared in his 2012 studio album “Love Is a Four-Letter Word.”

“Every stage that I find myself grounding in, I make it home and that song always brings me back.”

Hits and stunning visuals

For his concert tomorrow at the Araneta Coliseum, Mraz says he’ll showcase the songs in his new album “Yes!”

But, he added, “thanks to the musicianship of Raining Jane,” the folk group that’s backing him up, he’ll sing his well-loved hits “in an entirely new way.”

He also promised his Pinoy fans: “The visuals that we offer your evening are quite stunning.”
