Ford named the world's number one green brand

Ford has overtaken Toyota to be named Interbrand's Best Global Green Brand in its latest annual report.
Having been knocked off the top spot, the Japanese car company now sits at number two, followed by Honda, Nissan and Panasonic.

The report examines the gap between a brand's environmental performance and consumer perceptions, identifying the top 50 Best Global Green Brands each year.

There were significant shake-ups this year -- Sony and Adidas entered the top 10 for the first time, reaching numbers 7 and 8 respectively, whilst Swedish interiors store Ikea and Spanish retailer Zara both climbed 14 spots to be ranked at 19 and 34.

Chevrolet (number 32), Disney (49) and Heineken (50) joined the ranking for the first time.

Ford's environmentally-friendly portfolio boasts five electric vehicles -- two plug-in hybrids, two hybrids and one all electric.

The company has also invested heavily in hydrogen and fuel cell research and uses recyclable material in 41 different fabrics across its ranges.

Every year Interbrand publishes The Best Global Brands report, which determines the world's 100 most valuable brands.

The top 50 Best Global Green Brands are taken from this list, depending on how well organizations perform in terms of both sustainability performance and perception.
