Frisbee gets official recognition of International Olympic Committee

An Ultimate Frisbee tournament

The fast-paced game of ultimate frisbee has officially been recognized as an Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee.

Over the weekend the IOC granted full recognition to the World Flying Disc Federation during its 128th session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- and the organization’s 30th anniversary.

It’s hoped the new designation will pave the way for ultimate frisbee to be added as a competitive sport at the Olympic games.

The WFDF is made up of 65 member associations in 62 countries and holds major World Championships in different categories.

The group received provisional recognition in 2013.
