'Ghostbusters' art receives 30th anniversary tour
Original artwork and limited edition prints relating to the first "Ghostbusters" film are to go on tour, following rumors about a third entry to the franchise.
Backed by the Los Angeles pop culture exhibition space Gallery 1988 in conjunction with Sony Pictures, the show will make its first stop in New York, not far from the Manhattan firehouse that was a crucial part of the film's goings on.
More than 70 artists have created original paintings, sculptures, prints and apparel in homage to the 1984 box office smash, with a limited number being made available online but the bulk reserved for show-floor sales.
Running from April 19 to April 26 in New York, the collection then moves to Los Angeles from May 17 to June 1, and onto Chicago for June 20-22.
Its final scheduled stop is at the San Diego Comic-Con, July 24-27, for an expo that has become an increasingly popular destination for film studios keen to announce new tie-in projects.
Could we be hearing about a 30th anniversary re-release in San Diego, or does Sony Pictures have more in store for fans of madcap supernatural comedies?
"Ghostbusters 3" has become viewed as increasingly likely to get the go-ahead this year, with scope to become a handover movie that sees a new, younger team of ghoul-chasers rise up, with cameos from surviving cast members of the series starter.
