GMA slaps Geoff Eigenmann with ‘fat’ memo

The Kapuso Network is facing a “heavy” problem - one of its top-tier actors needs some time off the limelight, hit the gym and reclaim his best shape. The management has recently served Geoff Eigenmann what a source calls a “fat” memo and reminded him to shape up, Yahoo! Philippines OMG! learned.

An insider familiar with the production of “Forever” related that GMA’s entertainment unit was left with no choice but to serve the memo to its contract star. Geoff has visibly relied on layering clothes to conceal his weight throughout the three-month run of the series that ended last April 19. The defunct drama series was Geoff’s last project with GMA-7 where he reunited with on-screen partner Heart Evangelista.

The same source revealed that it took a while before the memo reached the 28-year-old actor. “Geoff’s manager (Perry Lansigan of PPL Entertainment) requested that the memo be handed to Geoff after the last taping day of “Forever” just so he wouldn’t get distracted in the taping,” the source recounted.

Geoff willing to cooperate

When reached for a comment, Perry Lansigan confirmed with Yahoo! Philippines OMG! that the network has indeed asked his ward to “slim down.” Perry continued that Geoff has pledged to “cooperate” with his mother studio. But he doesn’t know what kind of slimming regimen Geoff will take.

Some industry observers said the TV network has been problematic of late since its Entertainment unit has been struggling to keep up with the competition, and serving a “nasty yet logical” memo is deemed needed. “It saddens the program think tanks because we have to adjust the characters to fit our talents. The creative team suffers. We can’t ask Richard Gutierrez or Geoff Eigenmann to do offbeat roles,” the source continued. The person embedded in the production is unsure whether the management has already served Richard the same memo.

Advice from Heart

The visibly fit Heart Evangelista has allegedly advised her co-star to lessen the food he’s been eating. “Heart took notice of Geoff’s eating habits in the set and asked him to take it easy on eating.” This well-meaning advice is something to consider given that the Kapuso actress has recently graced the cover of men’s magazine Esquire Philippines’s latest issue.

In 2009, Geoff secured an underwear endorsement.

Yahoo! Philippines OMG! tried to get GMA's statement on the issue but we have yet to get a response as of press time.
