Google granted patent for contact lens

Google Novartis smart lens

This week the US patent authorities granted Google its patent to make contact lenses.

The patent makes it clear there will be a sensor on the lenses, indicating that it could be used to monitor glucose, as Google has confirmed that it is working with Novartis to make a glucose-monitoring contact lens for diabetics.

The contact lenses are thought to be a seperate project from the Google Glass program, according to Web Pro News, which spotted the patent.
